Surgical advancements have made it possible for more surgeries and procedures to be performed in outpatient settings rather than in traditional hospital facilities. These ASC procedures tend to be more convenient and less expensive alternatives.

With this comes an increased awareness and need for infection control guidelines. Most recently, a Johns Hopkins research team determined that patients that underwent one of the common procedures at ASCs were at greater-than-expected risk of bacterial infections, including E. Coli and Klebsiella.
